Our Current Wine Recommendations
Victor Hugo  Opulence  1999
California
Wine Type: Cabernet Blend

Price: 24.00

This terrific California Meritage is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Verdot. Elegance is what this wine is all about showing nice complexity, a velvety mouth feel and layers of rich dark fruit flavors with toasty oak. A great food wine to serve at your next dinner party or just cozy up in front of the fireplace with it. Highly Recommended! Nov. 2002

Midnight  Full Moon Red  2000
California
Wine Type: Red Blend

Price: 11.99

"A nice blend of Zinfandel, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. This easy drinking red wine is light to medium bodied with bright fruit flavors and mild tannins. Should match well with a wide variety of food. A real crowd pleaser." July 2002

Stephen Ross   Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay   2000
California
Wine Type: Chardonnay

Price: 29.99

Owner/Wine maker Stephen Ross Dooley hits a home run with this elegant Burgundian style wine that demonstrates why the Santa Maria Valley is such a great place to grow Chardonnay in California. The grapes for this wine were harvested by hand and then Whole Cluster pressed, the wine matured sur lies for 12 months in oak barrels (60% new French oak and 40% once used oak barrels). The wine is abundant in fruit aromas and has a complex, mineral character on the palate, with a very long elegant finish. This wine was the star of the night at a recent wine dinner. Only 320 cases produced.

Victor Hugo  Petite Sirah  1999
California
Wine Type: Petite Sirah

Price: 18.99

Wow! what a wine from this exciting new winery located in the Paso Robles area of California. Made from 100% Petite Sirah (one of California's most underrated red grape varietals) this wine was aged for 15 months in American oak. Deeply colored and lush, with lots of ripe black fruit and hints of chocolate and spice. This wine screams "Have me with a grilled steak". A great effort from talented owner/wine maker Victor "Hugo" Roberts. Only 785 cases produced. A must try wine.

Errazuriz  Fume Blanc   2000
Chile
Wine Type: Sauvignon Blanc

Price: Under $10

This Chilean delight displays citrus, papaya and mango aromas. On the palate our tasters detected flavors reminiscent of lemon, grapefruit and pear; some said they noted a mineral underlay. Delicious with fish hors d’oeuvres, or it satisfies by sipping as an aperitif.

Beaulieu Vineyard (BV)   Signet Zinfandel   1999
California
Wine Type: Zinfandel

Price: $28

Rich mocha-coffee and vanilla aromas give way to scents of blackberry and black pepper with hints of anise and jam. Palate: full-bodied with strong fruit and vanilla oak flavors; balancing black pepper, tannin and lively acid; deep, concentrated and balanced; creamy swallow and forever aftertaste. A big wine, buy now and hold until 2004 for optimum pleasure.

Beaulieu Vineyard   Sauvignon Blanc   2000
California
Wine Type: Sauvignon Blanc

Price: 13.99

Blended with nine percent Semillon, offers Graves-like aromas of herbs, lemon and flinty earthiness. Palate additionally discloses pleasing flavors of mineral-citrus fruit, plus lively acidity, smooth swallow and moderately long aftertaste. Nice wine, nice price.

Caliterra  Syrah  2000
Chile
Wine Type: Syrah / Shiraz

Price: 9.00

This is a dandy wine at a stock ‘em up low price. Nose: black cherries, blackberries, plums, spices, toasty oak; palate: maintains the aromas and adds nuance of chocolate, adding to complexity; ripe tannins, smooth swallow, lingering finish. Yes, Robert Mondavi successfully grows wine in Chile, but then – where doesn’t he succeed?

Mirassou  Chardonnay  1999
California
Wine Type: Chardonnay

Price: 14.00

Dry, medium-body, huge nose of tropical fruits and nuances of vanilla and cloves. Elegant, stylish, with integrated flavors reminiscent of green apples, pineapple and banana; nicely balanced with rich fruit and zesty fruit acids, underlaid with subtle oak and vanillin; smooth swallow, lingering aftertaste. Great price value.

La Famiglia di Robert Mondavi   Sangiovese  1999
California
Wine Type: Sangiovese

Price: 20.00

There's just no stopping Mondavi. Here, again, he succeeds with a winner …big time! Blended with Syrah, Nebbiolo and Teroldego, this young but complex red wine is an exciting mouthful with flavors of cherries, raspberries, spices and muted oaky vanillin; beautifully balanced with fruit, acid, tannin and spices; smooth swallow and reluctant farewell.
