Class and pedigree tell…..Looking at the different flights, there’s no hesitation when you look at these scores and find that the last flight took the honors. That’s no surprise to anyone that has dealt with red burgundies . Anyone may argue that the first flight was better for the price and it would hard to argue about that. But if you want the true taste of burgundy, you have to pay the price.

Here , this evening , we put together a hodgepodge of several vintages. Consequently, it might be somewhat confusing to establish a preference or order. However, be that as it may, we did have fun. The first four wines were quite good when you consider that they give you a taste of burgundy with out wiping out your pocketbook. These wines were solid examples of true pinot noir grown in that respected “terroir”. Except for one scorer that held down the scores, these were all rated in the middle 80’s and I would say right where they belong. Good wines, good color, and nice fruit , enjoyable all in all.

Stepping up one notch, we have to forgive the 79, which was an attempt to see if this wine would still stand proud. Unfortunately, time had run out. On the other hand, the Jayer-Gilles as usual stood out quite well for a Village wine, a tribute to the producer. The other three wines shared currants, spice, and a fuller body.

Finally, the class of the twelve wines came through with the last four. Luscious red sweet fruit, oozing through the typical barnyard greeted our nose. This gave way to hints of leather, spice, currants, as the wines enveloped our taste buds. Each wine was very well balanced and all had a warm touch to the lasting finish.
